Nigerian Bourse sheds N148bn as NGXASI dips by 0.72%

The Nigerian equity market on Tuesday closed on a bearish note as BUA Cement, one of the heavy weight stocks listed on the Exchange shed 5.71% of its share price due to profit taking.

The All Share Index depreciated by 0.72% to settle at 39,022.52 points from the previous 39,306.47 points. The Market Capitalisation declined by 0.72% to close at N20.339 trillion from the previous close of N20.487 trillion, thereby shedding N148 billion.

An aggregate of 204.65 million units of shares were traded in 3,940 deals, valued at N1.84 billion.

The Market Breadth closed negative as 16 equities appreciated in their share prices against 22 equities that declined in their share prices.

Percentage Gainers

  • ABC Transport and Initiates Plc led other gainers with 10% growth, both closing at N0.44 respectively.
  • Eternal Plc and Transcorp Hotel among other gainers also grew their share prices by 9.93% and 9.85% respectively.

Percentage Losers

  • Portland Paints led other price decliners as it shed its share price by 9.85% to close at N2.47 from the previous close of N2.74.
  • Champions Brewries and SCOA Nigeria Plc among other price decliners also shed their share prices by 9.68% and 9.30% respectively.

Volume Drivers

  • Courtville Business Solutions traded about 27.12 million units of its shares in 52 deals, valued at N5.46 million.
  • Fidelity Bank traded about 23.41 million units of its shares in 184 deals, valued at N54.2 million.
  • Zenith Bank traded about 18.55 million units of its shares in 400 deals, valued at about N435.53 million.
