Market returns -2.93% WtD amidst profit taking in High CAP stocks

The equity market for five consecutive days last week closed on a bearish note occasioned by profit taking in heavy weight stocks including Dangote Cement, MTN, Airtel and BUA Cement.

The All Share Index depreciated by 2.93% week on week to settle at 38,324.07 points from 39,481.89 points recorded the previous week.

The Market Capitalisation shed N604 billion as it dropped below the N20 trillion mark, closing at N19.975 trillion from N20.579 trillion recorded the previous week.

An aggregate of 1.048 billion units of shares were traded in 17,233 deals, valued at N11.543 billion.

The Market Breadth last week closed negative as 26 equities appreciated in their share prices against 41 equities that declined in their share prices.

Top 10 Gainers

  • Eternal Plc led other gainers last week with 21.21% growth, closing the week at N8 from N6.6 the previous week.
  • Prestige Assurance, Sterling Bank, MRS and ABC Transport grew theirs share prices week on week by 15.22%, 12.84%, 11.01% and 10.81% respectively.
  • Seplat, Initiate Plc and Mutual Benefit Assurance grew their share prices by 10% respectively, while Trans-nationwide Express and Transcorp Hotel among other gainers also grew their share prices by 9.88% and 9.85% respectively.

Top 10 Losers

  • C&I Leasing led other price decliners last week as it shed 18.80% of its share price to close at N4.06 from N5 the previous week.
  • Royal Exchange, Linkage Assurance, Sunu Assurance and Airtel shed their share prices by 18.42%, 13.04%, 12.96% and 10% respectively.
  • BOC Gases, Portland Paints, Nigerian Enamelware, SCOA and Julius Berger among other price decliners also shed their share prices by 9.96%, 9.85%, 9.80%, 9.30% and 9.05% respectively.
