Investors gain N54bn as equities market grew by 0.48%

The Nigerian equities market on Friday closed on a positive note as the All Share Index rose by 0.48% to settle at 21,861.78 points from the previous close of 21,757.47 points on Thursday.

The market capitalisation likewise grew by 0.48% to close at N11.393 trillion from the previous close of N11.339 trillion, thereby gaining N54 billion.

Aggregate volume of traded stocks was 251.4 million units, up by 46.03% from the previous close of 172 million units.

Value of traded stocks closed at N3.36 billion, up by 77.94% from the previous close of N1.89 billion.

Total number of deals at the close of trade was 3,968, up by 12.03% from the previous close of 3,542 deals.

Market Breadth

The market breadth closed positive as 23 equities gained while 7 equities declined in their share prices.

Percentage Gainers

Glaxosmith led other percentage gainers with 10% growth, closing at N3.85 from the previous close of N3.50.

NEM Insurance and Sterling Bank among other gainers also grew their share prices by 9.88% and 9.26% respectively.

Percentage Losers

Africa Prudential Plc led other price decliners, shedding 10% of its shares to close at N3.42 from the previous close of N3.80.

C&I Leasing and Royal Exchange Assurance among other price decliners shed 9.49% and 9.09% respectively.

Volume Drivers

Guaranty Trust Bank traded about 54.27 million units of its shares in 589 deals, valued at N1.01 billion.

Zenith Bank traded about 42.87 million units of its shares in 719 deals, valued at N538.78 million.

FBNH traded about 36.44 million units of its shares in 309 deals, valued at N147.34 million.
