Pensioners in Ekiti state have urged Governor Kayode Fayemi to investigate the circumstances leading to the delay in paying them their pensions despite introducing a centralized payment system for all pensioners in the state.
The Chairman of Concerned Local Government Pensioners’ Association of Nigeria in the state, Alhaji Quadri Oguntuase, and Secretary, Mr. Abiodun Agboola, lamented their members had not been paid their pensions for November.
Oguntuase told journalists in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday that many of their members having medical challenges were suffering, urging the governor to intervene and resolve the delay in paying them.
“Our fear was assuaged by the promise made by the governor that all state and local government pensioners would be paid centrally to ensure a prompt payment and check corruption. We agreed with this arrangement and praised the governor for this landmark initiative.
“On November 30, in line with Fayemi’s vow to pay as and when due, all the serving local government workers, state retirees and even primary school teacher pensioners received their money while the local government retirees were left out.”
