Stock market opens the week with N36bn gain

The Nigerian stock market on Monday closed on a positive note as the All Share Index rose further by 0.30 percent to settle 23,089.86 points from the previous close of 23,021.01 points last Friday.

The market capitalisation hits N12.033 trillion, up by 0.30 percent from the previous close of N11.997 trillion, thereby gaining N36 billion.

Aggregate volume of 249.85 million units of stocks were traded in 6,538 deals, valued at N2.396 billion.

 

Market Breadth

The market breadth closed negative as 15 equities appreciated in their share prices while 19 equities declined in their share prices.

 

Percentage Gainers

Prestige Assurance led other percentage gainers with 10% growth, closing at N0.55 from the previous close of N0.50.

Ardova Plc (formerly Forte Oil), Wapic Insurance and Learn Africa among other gainers also grew their share prices by 9.96%, 7.69% and 6.80% respectively.

 

Percentage Losers

NEM Insurance and Neimeth both led other price decliners, shedding 10% of their share prices to close at N1.98 and N0.54 respectively.

Chams Plc, Access Bank and University Press among other price decliners also shed their share prices by 8.70%, 7.58% and 7.55% respectively.

 

Volume Drivers

Guaranty Trust Bank traded about 44.53 million units of its shares in 546 deals, valued at N935.2 million.

First Bank of Nigeria Holdings ( FBNH) traded about 40.71 million units of its shares in 361 deals, valued at N187.37 million.

UBA traded about 24.75 million units of its shares in 401 deals, valued at N144.55 million.
