The World Bank has announced that it has approved $3bn in funding to cover vaccination in 32 countries, 15 of which are in Africa.

In a statement issued in advance of the G7 Leaders’ Summit, World Bank Group President, David Malpass, said it had committed over $125bn since the start of the pandemic to combat the economic and social impacts of the pandemic.

“Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Bank Group has committed over $125bn to fight the health, economic, and social impacts of the pandemic, the fastest and largest crisis response in our history.

“This financing is helping more than 100 countries strengthen pandemic preparedness, protect the poor and jobs, and jump-start a climate-friendly recovery.”
