Stock market returns -1.68% WtD as profit taking persist

The Nigerian stock market closed bearish again last week, as profit taking persist across industrial goods stocks on Nigerian Exchange (NGX). Profit taking in heavyweight stocks like Dangote Cement, BUA Cement, BETAGLASS, MTN Nigeria, Seplat, Presco among others collectively dragged the market into negative territory.

The All-Share Index declined by 1.68% to close the week at 147,013.59 points from 149,524.81 points recorded in the previous week.

Market capitalization fell also by 1.58% to settle at N93.501 trillion from the previous close of N94.998 trillion.

Year-to-date (YTD) market has returned to 42.83% with the All Share Index and Market Capitalisation at standing at 147,031.59 points and N93.501 trillion respectively.

A total turnover of 7.325 billion shares worth N156.425 billion in 134,458 deals was traded last week by investors on the floor of the Exchange, in contrast to a total of 3.575 billion shares valued at N107.011 billion that exchanged hands last week in 146,518 deals

Forty-eight (48) equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than twenty (20) equities in the previous week. Forty-five (45) equities depreciated in price, lower than seventy-five (75) equities in the previous week, while fifty-three (53) equities remained unchanged, higher than fifty-one (51) recorded in the previous week

Similarly, all other indices finished lower led by Industrial goods index which was down by -6.97%, Premium -2.74%, Commodity -2.02% while NGX CG, NGX Banking, NGX Pension, NGX Insurance, NGX AFR Div. Yield, NGX AFR Bank Value, NGX MERI Growth, NGX MERI Value, NGX Consumer Goods, NGX Growth and NGX Sovereign Bond Indices which appreciated by 0.74%, 1.26%, 0.29%, 2.42%, 2.18%, 1.34%, 1.71%, 2.00%, 0.46% 0.14% and 0.12% respectively.

TOP 10 GAINERS

NCR led the gainers table with 32.30% to close at N25.60 from the previous close of N19.35.

ASOSAVINGS, Champion Breweries, International Energy Insurance and Secure Electronic Technology grew their share prices by 14.44%, 11.54%, 11.48% and 10.67% respectively.

Others among the top 10 gainers include: Cornerstone Insurance 10.51%, JAPAULGOLD 9.57%, Guinea Insurance 9.57%, FTN COCOA 9.38% and Legend Internet 9.13% respectively.

TOP 10 LOSERS

UNIONDICON led other price decliners as it shed 18.71% of its share price to close at N6.30 from the previous close of N7.75.

AUSTINLAZ, MULTIVERSE, Academy Press and Dangote Press among other price decliners shed their share prices by 18.62%, 14.47%, 10.00% and 10.00% respectively.

Other price decliners include: Transcorp Power 10.00%, TRIPPLEG (9.98%), ABC Transport (9.91%), Redstar Express (9.80%) and ABBEYBUILDING (9.72%) respectively.
