Reps threaten PFAs with arrest over N9trn pension probe

The House of Representatives’ ad hoc committee investigating the activities of the National Pension Commission has threatened to issue arrest warrants on Pension Fund Administrators for their non-appearance before it.

Chairman of the committee, Mr. Johnson Agbonayinma, in Abuja on Wednesday threatened to issue the warrant to compel the PFAs to appear before the panel if they failed to appear before it at the next sitting on Thursday.

The House of Representatives had ordered the committee to investigate the activities of PenCom since April 2017 over alleged violation of the Act establishing the commission, as well as the state of the N9tn pension funds in its care.

Agbonayinma criticised the PFAs and other stakeholders for allegedly deliberately avoiding the committee. The lawmaker said, “We would have no option than to apply the law.

“We have been having different issues of people trying to avoid coming to the public hearing. We had our first public hearing in order for us to continue with our investigations that was slated for Thursday; I believe some people are trying to derail the wheel of the progress of our ad hoc committee.”
