President Tinubu has been elected as the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). The election took place at the 63rd Ordinary Session of ECOWAS on Sunday afternoon in Bissau, capital of Guinea-Bissau.
The immediate past President of ECOWAS is Umaro Embalo, president of Guinea-Bissau.
The ECOWAS Chairmanship is a position held by one of the heads of state or government of the member countries, chosen on a rotating basis for a one-year tenure.
Commenting on his new role at the Economic Community of West African States, Tinubu stated thus:
“We will take democracy seriously, Democracy is very tough but it is the best form of government.”
