PENCOM organizes workshop for retirees of 2020

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has organized a workshop for workers that will be retiring in the year 2020 under the Contributory Pensions Scheme (CPS). The Acting Director-general of the Commission, Mrs. Aisha Dahir-Umar, said the workshop is geared towards making them have a stress and trouble free retirement years.

Declaring the workshop open at the Federal College of Education (Technical) Gombe on Monday, Mrs. Aisha said the Commission has finalized arrangements to commence the verification of prospective retirees who will be retiring by the year 2020 from the public service of the federation.

According to her, the verification exercise is scheduled to commence from July 1st to 2nd August, 2019 in fifteen centres across the country adding that the exercise necessitated undertaking adequate sensitization and public enlightenment in order to prepare prospective retirees soon to take steps towards a hitch free retirement life.

She explained that the objectives of the Pension Reform Act (PRA 2014) is to ensure every person who worked in either the service of Public Service of the Federation, Federal Capital Territory, States and Local Government or the private sector receive his retirement benefits as and when due and to establish uniform set of rules regulations and standards for all aspects of pension administration including payment of retirement benefits to retirees among others.

She said, “The achievements recorded by the Commission in the last sixteen years would not have been possible without the support and understanding of all stakeholders, especially you, our esteemed contributors who are about to retire”.

Topics treated during the workshop included; “Enrolment Exercise and Documentation Requirements”, “Accessing Retirement under the CPS” and “Life in Retirement”.

It is expected that at the end of the workshop, the retirees would be informed on what they need to know on documentation requirements, payment of retirement benefits and best ways to enjoy their retirement.
