The Nigerian stock market sustained positive momentum last week, extending the bullish sentiment to two successive sessions triggered by renewed investors’ confidence. Strategic positioning ahead of year-end as well as portfolio rebalancing by market participants significantly skewed towards fundamentally strong stocks. The uptrend gained further traction as institutional investors deepened their exposure to sectors with resilient earnings outlooks, particularly banking, industrial goods and consumer good.
The All share index was up by 1.63% to close the week at 149,433.25 points from 147,040.07 points recorded in the previous week.
Market capitalization appreciated by 1.65% to settle at N95.264 trillion from the previous close of N93.722 trillion, gaining N1.542 trillion.
With the overall market performance, the year-to-date return of the index improved further to 45.18%.
However, activity levels were down during the week. The volume of trades declined by 33.9% week-on-week, the value of trades also fell by 13.7%. Total traded volume stood at 4.37 billion with turnover coming in at NGN97.87 billion while a growth from 109,680 units to 110,866 units of trade was recorded last week.
Forty-nine (49) equities appreciated in price during the week, lower than Fifty-five (55) equities in the previous week. Forty-one (41) equities depreciated in price, higher than Twenty-nine (29) equities in the previous week, while fifty-seven (57) equities remained unchanged, lower than sixty-six (63) recorded in the previous week.
TOP 10 GAINERS
MORISON led the gainers table with 32.49% to close at N4.69 from the previous close of N3.54.
MECURE, JAPAULGOLD, Sovereign Trust Insurance and PZ grew their share prices by 27.35%, 26.67%, 17.24% and 16.19% respectively.
Others among the top 10 gainers include: THE INITIATES 14.86%, MCNICHOLS 13.46%, NPF Microfinance Bank 13.14%, MTN Nigeria 12.98% and Berger Paints 11.87% respectively.
TOP 10 LOSERS
ETERNA OIL led other price decliners as it shed 14.93% of its share price to close at N30.20 from the previous close of N35.50.
UACN, ETRANZACT, Transcorp Hotel and CHELLARAM among other price decliners shed their share prices by 14.26%, 10.00%, 9.95% and 9.90% respectively.
Other price decliners include: JOHNHOLT (9.26%), DAARCOMMUNICATION (9.18%), African Prudential (7.69%), Sunu Assurance (7.60%) and CUSTODIAN (7.27%) respectively.
