Nigeria’s foremost construction company, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has been inundated with multiple awards for excellent performance across all sectors of its business operations in Nigeria.
According to the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Julius Berger is given an award in Recognition and Appreciation as the “Best in Training Contribution for 2020”. Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, said the ITF stands out due to their core objectives. Development, training and innovation of its employee is among their core objectives and as such their employees remains one of their high priority.
The regulatory Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) also honoured Julius Berger with its “Distinguished Production Quality” 2020 award
The University of Abuja Teaching Hospital also honoured the engineering construction giantwith a “Distinguished Corporate Social Responsibility award” for “Julius Berger’s contributions to the Hospital’s Development”
Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, especially since the disruptive and dangerous advent of the deadly covid-19 virus, has assisted the Hospital with an ambulance vehicle as well as large quantities of hospital beds and other safety necessaries. The award was given to the company at the UATH 2020 Awards Day which held at the premises of the Hospital in Gwagwalada Abuja. The event was a way for the Hospital’s management to appreciate their front line health care workers in different facilities who worked selflessly and dedicated their time since the Covid-19 lockdown, and also to appreciate and thank their sponsors who supported them during the period.
In his speech, the Chief Medical Director, UATH, Prof. Bissalla Ekele said when the FCT recorded her first case of COVID-19 after the index case in Lagos, the first case was admitted at UATH (the first and only Hospital then in FCT with the capacity to manage COVID-19).
Prof. Bissalla said they had managed 313 cases of COVID-19. “To the Glory of God, we have discharged 294 cases (92%) with 19 fatalities. The 80-man strong frontline health workers that have been working at the Treatment and Isolation Center for more than 9 months deserve our applause. And to the glory of God, they are all in good health,” he said. The UATH Board Chairman, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja said, this year’s annual awards come with challenges but we know there are still outstanding staff in the role they played in managing the COVID-19 cases at the facility. According to Dr. Jaja: “I get excited each time people are singled out for honour as a result of their performance either in their communities or place of work.”
Julius Berger also won another strategic award from the British-American Institute for Good Governance, Genuine Leadership and Innovative Businesses. The highly rated Institute honoured Julius Berger with its award as “The Most Valuable Representative of Infrastructural Development In Nigeria 2020”. To underscore the importance of the merit-driven and encouraging award, Julius Berger’s executive Director, Administration, Alhaji Zubairu Ibrahim Bayi was also on hand to receive the award on behalf of the company.
Julius Berger Nigeria Plc which traces its operational history in Nigeria way back to 1965 when it signed the contract for the construction of the sturdy and still standing Eko Bridge, has left its projects’ footprints across Nigeria as the company marks its 50 years of incorporation in Nigeria this year.
Recently, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc in collaboration with the Federation of Construction Industry (FOCI) and the Deutsce Gescellschaft Fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) launched the pioneer artisanal FOCI–JBN Skills Academy in Nigeria sited in Abuja. The Academy is been constructed by Julius Berger to develop adequately skilled construction tradesmen and women in the areas of masonry, welding, plumbing and carpentry. This will help in creating and preserving jobs and sustainable careers for the youths and give them a decent means of livelihood.
