Market closes lower by 0.39% amidst profit taking

The equity market on Tuesday resumed trading activities after the long Easter break on a bearish note occasioned by profit taking on Blue-Chip stocks.

The All Share Index on Thursday depreciated by 0.39% to settle at 38,766.61 points from the previous close of 38,916.74 points.

The Market Capitalisation declined by 0.38% to close at N20.283 trillion from the previous close of N20.361 trillion, thereby shedding N78 billion.

An aggregate of 224.59 million units of shares were traded in 4,675 deals, valued at N2.14 billion.

The Market Breadth closed negative as 14 equities emerged as gainers against 21 equities that declined in their share prices.

Percentage Gainers

Eterna Plc led other gainers with 9.91% growth to close at N5.99 from the previous close of N5.45.

Linkage Assurance and Royal Exchange Assurance among other gainers also grew their share prices by 9.72% and 9.09% respectively.

Percentage losers

MRS led other price decliners as it sheds 9.92% of its share price to close at N10.9 from the previous close of N12.1.

Aluminum Extrusion Industries and Consolidated Hallmark Insurance among other price decliners also shed their share prices by 9.88% and 9.38% respectively.

Volume Drivers

  • UACN traded about 34.049 million units of its shares in 546 deals, valued at N337.6 million.
  • Access Bank traded about 26.347 million units of its shares in 376 deals, valued at N214.93 million
  • First Bank of Nigeria Holdings traded about 18.93 million units of its shares in 138 deals, valued at N137.43 million.
