The President, Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has splashed a sum of N130m on about 13,000 vulnerable women in the 13 local government areas of Nasarawa State.
Dangote, who disclosed this during the inauguration of Aliko Dangote Foundation of Micro Grants in Lafia, said the programme was aimed at improving the living conditions of vulnerable women in the state.
According to him, the micro-grant programme was one of the components of the economy empowerment programme of the foundation designed to provide disadvantaged and vulnerable women with unconditional N10,000 cash transfer to improve their income.
He explained further that some few states with large population would get a little bit more, saying that apart from this, the company also had a programme for giving loans with zero interest and this would be given to people in the medium-scale industries.
“The programme is equally aimed at complementing the efforts of the state government in the economic empowerment and poverty reduction drive,” he added.
“We at Aliko Dangote are happy to continue to provide support for the most vulnerable and deserving members of the society across the state and the country at large,” Dangote said, adding that he did not only want to be known as the African richest man, but the biggest philanthropist in Africa.
Earlier, Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, who called for more partnership with Dangote to improve the lots of the people in the state, lauded the benevolent gesture of the foundation.
