FG orders immediate quit of mining activities in Zamfara

The Federal Government on Sunday ordered foreign and local miners to vacate mining sites in Zamfara States and its environs with immediate effect.

President Buhari interacting with troops deployed to curb the activities of bandits and criminals in Zamfara and neighbouring states under Operations Sharan Daji and Diran Mikiya, at Katsina Airport shortly before departing for Abuja on 25th Aug 2018 The Federal Government also announced the suspension of mining activities in the state so as to curtail the activities of the armed banditry that have been terrorizing the people of the place.

Briefing State House correspondents at the presidential villa Abuja, the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, said that any foreign miner that continues mining activities would have his license revoked. The press briefing was attended by Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari; Director General, Department of State Services (DSS); Yusuf Bichi and Director General National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Abubakar. The Police IG said that there was a nexus between activities of the bandits and illicit miners, adding that a combined team of security forces will be now dispatched to take over the areas affected
